Port of Bayside Wharf Refurbishment in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick.

The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) intends to fund a project in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick. project represents a revitalization of the existing port infrastructure to extend its life by up to 20 years, and the purchase of a floating dock. The preliminary engineering report shows that the project will include the installation of pile jackets, sheet pile repairs, site work, demolition, removals, and reinstatement. Without this port, and the planned revitalization, many key New Brunswick companies would be challenged to operate in a cost competitive position.

October 31, 2023 – The Atlantic Canada Opportunity Agency issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures

The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
