Crosby's Molasses Rail Spur Project at the Port of Saint John in New Brunswick

The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) is considering the funding of a project for a company located in Saint John, New Brunswick. The project will be the construction of rail spur at the Crosby location at the Port of Saint John to facilitate the import and export of products to ensure consistent product availability. In the event of supply issues affecting the transportation by ocean vessel, this project will ensure that the company will be able to handle more rail cars at its west side location at the port of Saint John.

October 31, 2023 – The Atlantic Canada Opportunity Agency issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures

The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
