Range Training Area Maintenance - 5th Canadian Division Support Base (CDSB) Gagetown

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project to replace existing culverts with new culverts, or in some cases decommissioning sections of road or crossings and naturalizing the site. The project is required to maintain, repair, or decommission existing watercourse crossings within the Range and Training Area that are no longer functioning adequately due to damage, deterioration, or changes in the watercourse hydraulic conditions. Crossings will be designated to current Range Training Area standards to account for changes in run-off characteristics or design enhancements since the culverts were installed.

For each sub project the construction footprint is expected to remain within the existing easements. The project will also contain maintenance activities associated with ford maintenance. Each site will vary slightly in the construction method, based on the site-specific conditions. When required, coffer dams will be placed up and down stream from the work site and fish rescue performed. Water will be pumped around site, as required, to ensure continued flow downstream. The existing material in the approaches and streambed will be removed to a depth of approx. 0.6 meters and a width of 4 meters. Depending on the slope, water bars are added as required in the approaches and exits to capture runoff and move it into the green belt at the sides. Any fords encountered with extreme slopes and or elevations on one or both sides will be decommissioned.
