Floating Docks Installation and Dredging at Pugwash, Small Craft Harbour, Cumberland, N.S.

The proposed harbour improvements project at Pugwash SCH will include the installation of two new floating docks and dredging.  A new retaining wall will be constructed along the existing armour stone berm located on the north side of the harbour. The new floating docks will be attached to strongarms and gangways that will be anchored to the retaining wall. Dredging will be completed to allow access to the floating docks. The existing armour stone revetment and corestone berm will be partially deconstructed to facilitate installation of the new retaining wall. The base of the retaining wall will be built on the existing corestone material with a new clearstone mattress built to el. +2.00 where a reinforced concrete abutment will be constructed. On top of the concrete abutment and adjacent to the retaining wall, reinstated corestone material, geotextile fabric, and type 1 and type 2 compacted fill will be placed to bring the finished grade to el. + 3.80. The top of the retaining wall will extend to el. +4.05.  On the east side of the retaining wall, 2 layers of reinstated rip rap at a 1.5:1 slope will be placed on top of new and existing geotextile. Two floating docks will be anchored to the retaining wall using two strongarms and two gangways.

The area in front of the new floating docks will need to be dredged to allow for safe berthage. The area will be dredged to 2.0 meters below chart datum and will encompass an area of approximately 500 m2. The dredge material will be deposited in the existing containment cell located adjacent to the dredge area within the north side of the harbour property.
