North Rustico DFO-SCH Wharf Reconstruction

North Rustico SCH's existing breakwater structure has, after years of aging and weathering from ice, pounding surf and storm events, deteriorated to the point requiring major reconstruction. The existing structure's stone filled interior will be partially removed to allow for the installation of new steel sheet piling and tie rods. New mainland rock will replace the eroding sandstone rock within the structure as well as being added to the north side of the breakwater as an armourstone sloped wall. Reconstruction will generally take place on the same footprint as the existing breakwater but almost double the footprint due to encapsulation of the existing structure using steel sheet piling and additional armourstone placement.
