Reconstruction of the Fishermen's Wharf and the Slipway at the Port of Cap-aux-Meules – Gulf of St. Lawrence

The Transport Canada (TC) fishermen's wharf at Cap-aux-Meules in the Magdalen Islands was built in the early 1970s and has exceeded its useful life to the point of causing operational and safety issues. The slipway, in addition to not being adapted to the new 300T crane currently in use, has also reached the end of its useful life and would require significant investments to keep it operational.

The Fishermen's Wharf reconstruction project will provide users with a new wharf and slipway, adapted to current needs, and without operational restrictions, in addition to providing a safe work area for all users.

The reconstruction of the fishermen's wharf and the slipway  will take place in three phases.

- First phase (2027): Demolition and reconstruction of the slipway.

- Second phase (2028): Demolition and reconstruction of pier No. 9.

- Third phase (2029): Demolition and reconstruction of pier No. 8.

In the first phase, the boat launch and pier 10 will also be demolished but will not be rebuilt.

Before the second phase, a temporary floating dock will be installed to compensate for the loss of space available to users.  This will be removed at the end of the work.

In the third phase, the existing temporary wharf will also be demolished.

The new wharf will be constructed using closed-sided walls made of sheet piles.
