Runway 16-34 (secondary) Overlay, Parking lot and Visual Aids Rehabilitation at Îles-de-la-Madeleine Airport

Îles-de-la-Madeleine airport is located in the center of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and serves the entire Magdalen Archipelago, a group of a dozen islands. It is a remote airport under the National Airports Policy. The airport comprises a main runway (08-26) 14,741 m long and 492 m wide, a secondary runway (16-34) 11,837 m long and 492 m wide, two taxiways (Alpha and Bravo) and a ramp.

The asphalt pavement of secondary runway 16-34 at the Îles-de-la-Madeleine airport has exceeded its useful life. The pavement is showing signs of aging that could compromise its safe operation.

In addition, the visual aids along the main and secondary runways are showing signs of premature aging, and a complete replacement is required to comply with TP312 standards.

Finally, the pavement of the public parking lot has also reached the end of its useful life and needs to be resurfaced.

Planned activities are as follows:

- Mobilization and demobilization, transportation, circulation and operation of machinery
- Resurfacing of secondary runway (16-34)
- Replacement of visual aids
- Replacement of omnidirectional approach lighting (ODALS)

The work is scheduled to be completed between 2025 and 2027.
