Seal Island Fixed Aid Tower Installation, Shelburne County, Nova Scotia

The proposed project involves the construction and commissioning of a new 70-foot self-supporting steel tower adjacent to the existing Seal Island Lighthouse. This new fixed aid to navigation will enhance visibility and safety in the area, providing full 360-degree coverage in accordance with current Transport Canada standards for shore-based navigation aids.

The tower will be designed, fabricated, and installed in accordance with CSA S37-01, and will meet all applicable structural and safety requirements.

The project will be completed in a single phase and will include the following:

  • Complete design-build services for the new 70-foot self-supporting steel tower
  • Foundation design and installation appropriate to local conditions
  • Fabrication of the tower structure in compliance with CSA S16.1 and CSA S37 standards
  • All welding performed by qualified CWB-certified welders in accordance with CSA W59.1 (latest edition)
  • Grounding and bonding of the structure in line with CSA S37 and applicable sections of CSA Standard C22.1
  • Installation and commissioning of the tower to meet current operational standards for fixed aids to navigation

Construction activities will be planned to minimize environmental impacts and will take place within an already developed area near the existing lighthouse structure. No heavy ground disturbance beyond the installation footprint is anticipated.
