Freshwater Brook Bridge Replacement - Kensington Cove Road, Fortress of Louisbourg

This project calls for the complete replacement of the Freshwater Brook Bridge. The new structure will likely include a Precast Rigid Frame 11.59 m span. The final road elevation will be raised to accommodate the new structure. Support features include a control rock weir upstream of the bridge to maintain the water level in the wetland while accommodating fish passage. Some upgrades to channel bottom through the will allow for improved fish passage. The new shape involves a pool-riffle-run system with gradually stepped pools to match the natural river bottom elevations upstream and downstream of the structure. Work is expected to begin in September 2022 and continue for about four weeks. Local road closure is planned during work operations. PCA is consulting with DFO for expert input. ACOA, an Authority with this proposal, will be providing support, accordingly.
