Cape Race Building Demolition

The proposed project includes the complete removal of three (3) buildings – old fog horn building, old generator building, old dwelling – from the existing property. The structures, including concrete foundations, will be completely demolished and removed from the site and disposed of at an approved waste disposal location. Hazardous materials identified in each structure shall be removed by a qualified contractor in accordance with applicable legislation/regulations. Approximately 2 feet of suspected contaminated soil will also be removed from beneath the foundation of each structure and disposed of in accordance with applicable provincial guidelines. Upon removal of the soil, the disturbed area will be backfilled will clean fill, graded with topsoil and hydroseeded.

End of Public Comment Period November 9, 2020 – The public comment period on the project is closed. DFO, RPSS is considering comments received to date to inform its determination on whether carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
