Construction of a warehouse for the temporary storage of refractory bricks
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
Aluminerie Alouette Inc. (AAI) is proposing to build a flexible membrane structure type warehouse with steel reinforcement and concrete block foundation, for the temporary storage of refractory bricks, on the property of the Port of Sept-Iles (PSI) in the Pointe-Noire sector, in Sept-Iles, Quebec. This warehouse, of 2,789 m2, will be built on a paved surface totaling approximately 8,845 m2 located south of La Relance terminal, west of the AAI and east of the storage silos for raw materials used in the manufacture of aluminum. It will be used temporarily during the period of repair work on AAI's two anode baking furnaces (FAC) and will provide storage capacity for approximately 2,300 pallets of different refractory brick configurations. The project also includes the leveling of the land to the south of the warehouse on an area of approximately 10,000 m2, still on PSI property, with a thickness of 150 mm of MG20, in order to create a parking lot of a capacity of approximately 200 places which will be used for the duration of the construction site.
Stormwater from the paved area will be fully collected via manhole RP-02 of the AAI drainage system. Stormwater from the AAI site is rigorously monitored and samples are taken continuously to ensure its quality before being discharged into the environment. All employees have the duty to report immediately (without delay) the presence, release or spill of a contaminant on the ground, the stormwater network, the sanitary network or the atmosphere. In addition, all PSI environmental precautions must be observed (https://www.portsi.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/2017-09-05-Mesures-de-precautions-environnementales-SANS-SIGNATURE.pdf).
