North Portal Septic Tank Replacement

The Proposed Project

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is replacing a septic tank system on the North Portal Animal Inspection Station property (49° 0' 4.392'' N 102° 33' 8.352'' W) located in North Portal, Saskatchewan. The scope of the project is to replace an existing 800 gallon septic tank.  The effluent in the tank is pumped to the Village of North Portal sewage management system. The new tank will have the same volume, but will be equipped with a separate pump chamber, new pump, new electrical, new floats. The tank size reaches just over 12 feet below ground and excavation will be completed in the winter when the groundwater table is at its lowest.

Notice of Determination  August 10, 2020. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has determined that the proposed septic tank replacement at CFIA’s North Portal site is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.  Potential environmental effects will be managed through technically and economically feasible mitigation measures and implemented for the following: air, water, soil, migratory birds, and species at risk, wildlife, and vegetation. Therefore, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part..
