Meadow Lake Tribal Council: Solar Project
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The Meadow Lake Tribal Council Solar Project (the Project) is being developed by the MLTC Solar Energy LP (MLTCLP) on Flying Dust First Nation reserve land. The proposed Project includes the construction, installation and operation of an 816kW solar energy farm to generate electricity for the provincial power supply. The Project will include more than 3,000 bifacial solar module panels to be installed on the fixed-tilled, ground-mounted racking system. The chosen site includes portions of NE1/4-31-09-09 about 18 kilometres northwest of Stoughton, Saskatchewan. The site contains annual row crops, and has been used as cultivated cropland since prior to 2008.
The scope of the project includes the following activities:
- Site clearing (e.g., removal of stubble remaining from agricultural harvest);
- Site leveling and grading;
- Pile system preparation;
- Racking system and solar panel installation
- Excavation of trenches for the collector lines and installation of a collection system;
- Installation of an inverter station;
- Construction of access roads, perimeter fencing, and lighting;
- Construction of a control building and a maintenance building;
- Construction of a transmission line; and,
- Grid connection
This project will create a long term revenue stream for the community which helps the community achieve their goal of self-sustainability. The project will also bring ancillary economic benefits to the MLTCII and its members in the form employment and subcontracting opportunities.
