Limber Pine Orchard Fence

The proposed project is to install elk exclosure fencing around the Waterton Park limber pine orchard adjacent to Highway 6. Blister rust resistant limber pine seedlings are planted throughout an approximate area of 1 ha in Zones 2 and 3. Each individual seedling was protected using propylene mesh tubing in 2021. However, elk browse was evident in the Spring of 2022 and 2023, and additional measures are required to protect the seedlings which are critical for seed production of rust resistant specimens. Approximately 400 m of elk resistant fencing will be installed around the orchard.

October 22, 2023 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Parks Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
