Bingay Main Coal Project

Centermount Coal Limited is proposing the construction, operation, and decommissioning of an open pit coal mine located approximately 21 kilometres north of Elkford, in southeastern British Columbia. As proposed, the project would produce 1 million tonnes of coal per year over a mine life of approximately 13 years.

August 29, 2022 — The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada has determined it will not extend the three-year time limit for Centermount Coal Limited to provide the required information or studies for the environmental assessment. The proponent has not provided the Agency with the required information or studies within the legislated time limit.

The environmental assessment for the Bingay Main Coal Project has terminated.
