Fairholme II Prescribed Fire

Parks Canada is proposing to complete a prescribed fire in the Fairholme Bench area of Banff National Park to assist in achieving Agency ecological integrity objectives. The last prescribed fire that occurred in that area was in 2003. The key objectives of the prescribed fire are: the restoration of douglas fir grassland through the reduction of lodgepole pine and other early successional species' tree growth; the restoration of local wildlife and plant habitat; and the reintroduction of the historic fire regime to the local landscape. The prescribed fire will occur in spring or early fall when conditions meet prescription and may be completed as early as 2022.
