Margaret Creek Fish Barrier Creation

Creation of a fish migration barrier on Margaret Creek to prevent non-native fish from migrating back into Margaret Lake following the removal of non-native brook trout and reintroduction of Westslope cutthroat trout.
This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment. It will involve using explosives to create a fish barrier in Margaret Creek above Hector Lake. This project is part of a larger recovery strategy for endangered westslope cutthroat trout.


Latest update

September 11, 2021 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Parks Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada are considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
