Jasper Park Lodge Maintenance and Golf Maintenance Compounds, General Manager's Cabin & Superintendent's Cabin Rebuild - Post-Wildfire

Jasper Park Lodge (JPL) is proposing to rebuild their Maintenance and Golf Maintenance Compounds, General Manager and Superintendent's (hereafter referred to as Leader) Cabins that were destroyed in the Jasper Wildfire Complex. JPL is proposing to relocate the leader cabins and consolidate and relocate the Maintenance and Golf Maintenance compounds to other locations within their leasehold. The new maintenance compound is proposed to be located at the edge of the lease's development boundary, located on primarily undeveloped land, east of Sir Henry Thornton Village staff housing. They are also proposing to rebuild the two Leader cabins in alternate locations within the primary resort development zone at the site of the recently lost engineering buildings, west of the Sir Henry Thornton village.

The proposed work supports ongoing rebuilding efforts by Jasper Park Lodge after the Jasper Wildfire Complex. The proposed scope of work (i.e. the construction of new buildings and parking lots) is not included in the scope of the Frontcountry Areas Preapproved Routine Impact Assessment. Additionally, this project will alter the purpose/function of the existing areas (i.e. two leader cabins are proposed to be built within the existing maintenance yard). Both the Golf Maintenance and Maintenance Compound have identified areas of contamination pre-fire. The proposed consolidated maintenance compound area is located on primarily undeveloped land. All existing and proposed building locations are located within Zone IV - Outdoor Recreation. A Basic Impact Assessment in accordance with the Parks Canada Directive on Impact Assessment (2019) will be required to assess the potential impacts associated with the project.
