Trans Mountain Miette River Bridge Replacement

Trans Mountain is proposing to replace the existing Miette River bridge near the west boundary of Jasper National Park with a new bridge with a higher load rating. Bridge replacement will eliminate the need to construct a temporary overbridge for heavy equipment crossing in the event of a pipeline emergency or if operations and maintenance work is required on sections the 24" TMPL or 36" TMX pipelines that can only be accessed by crossing the bridge. Project activities include vegetation clearing, removal of existing bridge and abutments, installation of new braced steel pipe and concrete abutments, rock-armoured slope retention and backfill, and seeding and planting with native species. The replacement is planned so instream work and water diversion are not required, pile driving is not required, the existing instream piers will remain in place and no fill or other structures will be placed below the ordinary high-water mark.
