Redevelopment of 702 Connaught Drive - 7-Eleven Convenience Store and Gas Bar

The 7-Eleven convenience store and ESSO gas bar located at 702 Connaught Drive were destroyed during the 2024 Jasper wildfire. 7-Eleven proposes to redevelop the site, including demolition and removal of the remaining infrastructure, replacement of the underground storage tanks (USTs), and construction of a new convenience store and gas bar. In fall 2024, fuel was removed from the USTs and fire-impacted debris was removed from the surface of the site. Underground assets, including the USTs, product piping, vent lines, and concrete foundations, were left in situ. Project activities will include removal of the asphalt and remaining infrastructure, and construction of the new facility (excavation, pouring concrete, building construction, landscaping, etc.). Replacement of the USTs will proceed according to federal regulations for removal of a petroleum storage tank, including confirmatory sampling, potential remediation, and reporting to Parks Canada.
Latest update
March 27 2026 – Parks Canada intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Parks Canada is inviting public comments until April 26 2026 respecting that determination.
