Parks Canada 8-Mile Pit Expansion and Aggregate Extraction

Parks Canada is proposing a ~6.0 ha expansion of the 8-Mile Aggregate Pit in Jasper National Park, with work to occur in the spring of 2025. Activities assessed in the impact assessment will include grubbing/vegetation removal, site grading, aggregate extraction, crushing/processing and site reclamation. The need for future expansion of 8-Mile pit was identified in 2015 to meet potential increased demand for granular aggregates in Jasper National Park. This urgent need recently became realized after the 2024 Jasper Wildfire, with aggregates and asphalt being in high demand to support post-wildfire recovery activities, such as for preparing interim housing sites and road repairs.
