Parks Canada Pyramid Bench Wildfire Risk Reduction 2025-2030

This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment. Parks Canada plans to conduct hand and mechanical tree removal over approximately 500 hectares of forest west and northwest of the Jasper townsite in the Pyramid Bench area of Jasper National Park (JNP). Development and application of site-specific fuel reduction and retention prescriptions will support wildfire suppression and emergency response operations, while maintaining important forest stand attributes. Work is anticipated to begin in winter 2025/26 and continue in phases over the following five years. The proposed work supports ongoing wildfire risk reduction efforts in JNP, building upon previously completed vegetation management and maintenance activities. Parks Canada will complete a basic impact assessment to assess and mitigate potential environmental and cultural impacts of the project.

Latest update
