Sunshine Village Ski Area - Parking Lot Reconfiguration and Improvements

This proposal aims at delivering on key objectives, ecological management parameters and requirements of the 2018 Parks Canada-approved Site Guidelines (Site Guidelines) to effectively protect Healy Creek from the impacts of parking lot runoff and address specific parking imbalances to accommodate the current approved design capacity. The project aligns fully with the Site Guidelines as the proposed location is entirely within the developed area perimeter and the ski area lease boundary, and the Site Guidelines specify that proposals to improve parking efficiency or capacity within the existing base area through relocating or reconfiguring existing facilities or parking space can be considered in advance of a Long Range Plan. The proposal includes the removal of an existing bank and installation of a slope stabilization feature to provide approximately 250 parking spaces within the base area and a number of measures identified in the Site Guidelines (a new storm water management system including oil and grit separators, increased vegetation on the existing berm between Healy Creek and the parking lot, improved snow removal protocols, etc) to protect and buffer Healy Creek from the impacts of parking lot operations.
