Winter Road Bridge Crossing Construction on Nibinamik First Nation

The Proposed Project

Nibinamik First Nation is proposing the installation of a pre-purchased bridge at winter road Crossing #1, approximately 1.7 km south of the community. This project would improve early access to opening and construction of the winter road since it is the first water crossing. This crossing has proven difficult to maintain as small culverts and fill were used in its initial construction. Overland flooding occurs regularly as the creek exceeds the culvert capacity. Installing a portable bridge would alleviate these challenges and extend the winter road season.
