Construction of Four Modular Teacherages on Webequie First Nation

The Proposed Project

Webequie First Nation is proposing the installation of 4 modular teacherages (78 sq.m each) to replace 3 existing teacherages that are in poor condition and add 1 additional teacherage. Activities are as follows:

  • The demolition of the existing teacherages;
  • Site preparation for the modular units to be delivered via winter road to be placed on permanent foundations;
  • Leveling and compaction by heavy equipment with aggregate (source 13 km from community) prior to screw pile install;
  • New water and sewer connections (1 per site) and electrical connections (unknown if new pole and transformer is required);
  • Installation of 4 new fuel day tanks for heating;
  • Designated substances surveys to be completed by a professional for existing teacherages and provide disposal plan of demolished teacherages, if required;
  • Landscaping for vehicle access and positive drainage grading.

This project will help with teacher retention by improving the living conditions of resident teachers teaching at the community's school, Simon Jacob Memorial Education Centre.
