Red Sucker Lake New School and Servicing

The growing community of Red Sucker Lake is in need of additional education space. As such, the project involves the renovation and addition to the existing community school and the construction of a new school to the northeast of the community. The project involves extending services to the new school and constructing additional teacherages at the new school site.

  1. 30 September 2020 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed  Red Sucker Lake New School and Servicing is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects

 

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • [impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples];
  • [Indigenous knowledge];
  • [community knowledge];
  • [comments received from the public];
  • [mitigation measures].

 

 Implementation of mitigation measures is required.

 

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Environmental effects that are within provincial jurisdiction would be addressed through provincial regulations.

 

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part..
