St. Theresa Point First Nation - Old Bulk Fuels Decommissioning

STPMG, the group responsible for the bulk fuel farms, has proved by monitoring fuel consumption that the community's fuel usage has increased from 150,000 to 200,000 litres per month thus increasing the new bulk fuels site on-year fuel storage capacity from 1.8 million to 2.4 million liters per year. The community is using the old bulk fuel storage facility to overcome the shortage in fuel storage. In 2017, Neegan Burnside in their report concluded that it would be most feasible  for the community to expand the new bulk fuel storage site by adding twenty (20) new double walled 65,000.00 liter horizontal fuel tanks than utilizing fuel tanks from old fuel site. In 2021, Absolute Petroleum in their report (attached) that the 90,000 single walled tanks installed in the 1990's are nearing their end of life. Further that there are several vertical tanks not being used that need to be removed from the community. Once new tanks are purchased, the old tanks must be removed from the community and the old fuel farm site must be cleaned up to ensure that the community is not at risk for more contamination.
