Poplar River Bridge Replacement

Poplar River First Nation (PRFN) requires the construction of a new bridge to facilitate commuting and heavy load transport for the community. The existing Poplar River and Franklin River bridges have existing load restrictions and therefore do not meet community servicing needs. This project will involve the rehabilitation of the Poplar River Bridge to facilitate commuter use, and the Franklin River bridge will be converted to a pedestrian only bridge. A new bridge will be constructed over the Franklin River to service the heavy load and commuting needs of the PRFN community.

The new bridge requires piers to be placed in the water, as a single span structure was not feasible for the community. Temporary rock causeways will be required to drive the pier piles within the channel. All of these works below the high water mark have the potential to impact fish and fish habitat, with the piers resulting in a permanent loss of fish habitat within Franklin River.
