Tl'azt'en Nation - Tache Indian Reserve #1 T6 Road Upgrade Project
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The Project area is located approximately 65 km northwest of Fort St. James, British Columbia, within the community of Tachie, BC, on Tache Indian Reserve No. 1, which is part of the Tl'azt'en First Nation. The reserve is situated along the northern shoreline of Stuart Lake and includes areas of forested land as well as cleared areas used for residences, community facilities, and local roadways.
The Project involves upgrading a 1.7 km segment of the existing Tachie Road, which serves as the primary access route connecting the community of Sunnyside and the end of the current paved section to the western portion of the community (old Tachie). The proposed upgrades include road improvements and paving to enhance public safety, reduce dust-related health concerns, improve emergency access and egress, and extend the service life of the roadway.
The proposed scope of work includes full road reconstruction and raising the roadway to an elevation above the 1:200-year flood level. Additional works would involve replacing existing culverts, re-establishing erosion protection to match the new road profile, relocating power poles where required, and adjusting utilities through raising and/or lowering as necessary.
