Dog Camp Water Control Structure
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The Dog Camp Water Control Structure Project (the Project) is an initiative proposed by Indigenous partners in the Peace Athabasca Delta (the Mikisew Cree First Nation, Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, and Fort Chipewyan Metis Nation) under the Wood Buffalo National Park World Heritage Site Action Plan. The Project would be located on the Chanel des Quatres Fourches, approximately 12 km southwest of Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, in Wood Buffalo National Park. The Project aims to mimic historic inundation patterns and reintroduce more frequent flooding of perched basins, with benefits to ecological integrity and access for traditional use within the Lake Claire and Mamawi Lake areas of in support of maintaining the Outstanding Universal Value of Wood Buffalo National Park. Through a collaborative process involving Indigenous partners along with federal and provincial technical experts, a conceptual design and detailed impact assessment for the project has been prepared. The Project proposes the construction of an inflatable/adjustable weir with a duel cart and winch system for boat passage and a nature-like fishway.
