Goderich Search and Rescue Station Fuel Tank Replacement

The Goderich SAR Station is located on North Harbour Road in Goderich, Ontario. It is adjacent to the Harbour Basin, Lake Huron, and the Maitland River. The Goderich Search and Rescue Station is occupied by the Canadian Coast Guard as an office and residence for crew-member while on-call for marine search and rescue operations.  DFO has identified the need to replace the current fuel storage tank system (including associated piping, delivery system and stairs & platform structure) at the Goderich SAR site, which is beyond its useful life. The tank is used to service the Canada Coast Guard (CCG) vessel fleet and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future. The current tank is a double-walled dual tank - holding both gasoline and diesel, 2000L and 5000L, respectively.

As the SIFTO (salt product) facility is located adjacent to Goderich SAR, the site experiences a very high salt-content environment (air and dust) which contributes to the corroding of the site assets and structures much more quickly than at other sites. This factor must be taken into consideration for the fuel tank and system components. It is important to re-instate enclosures (i.e., cabinets) on the system components to help delay the corrosion on the tank system and structures.
