Ontario Place Spa Complex and Ontario Place Underground Parking Garage Project

Therme Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure are each proposing a project as part of the overall Ontario Place Redevelopment in Toronto, Ontario.

Therme Canada is proposing to construct and operate the Ontario Place Spa Complex Project, a large commercial spa facility located on West Island, as well as a reception building on the mainland. The spa complex would extend the footprint of West Island by 12 acres as a result of near-shore lake infilling and include a multipurpose bridge connecting the island to the mainland.

The Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure is proposing to construct and operate the Ontario Place Underground Parking Garage Project. As proposed, the underground parking garage would provide 1900 parking spaces, primarily below lake level, and would be connected to the spa complex.

Latest update

December 19, 2023 — As set out in the Statement on the Interim Administration of the Impact Assessment Act Pending Legislative Amendments, no decisions to designate projects will be taken pending legislative amendments. In accordance with the statement, on December 1, 2023, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change communicated this guidance to the requester and the proponents, and indicated that, in any event, he is of the view that the designation of the Ontario Place projects would not have been warranted under section 9(1) of the Impact Assessment Act, SC 2019, c 28, s 1. More information can be found in the Minister’s letters to the requester and the proponents, as well as the Analysis Report prepared by the Agency.
