New Fibre Installation

Bell Canada plans to install submarine fiber optic cabling, for Internet purposes, to residential homes in Baptiste Lake, Faraday Lake, Lavalley Bay, Salmon Trout Lake, York River, Wanamaker Lake, Mayo Lake, Coe (Island) Lake, Pencil Lake, Mississauga Lake, and Gold Lake. The project involves the installation of approximately 28.1 km of submarine fiber optic cable, distributed as follows: 4.78 km in Baptiste Lake, 0.41 km in Faraday Lake, 1.61 km in Lavalley Bay, 1.36 km in Salmon Trout, 1.13 km in York River, 1.7 km in Wanamaker Lake, 5.06 km in Mayo Lake, 8 km in Coe (Island) Lake, 3.8 km in Pencil Lake, 0.123 km in Mississauga Lake and 0.157 km in Gold Lake

Notice of Determination

August 8, 2025 - Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada has determined that the proposed project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • relevant potential environmental effects;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation and monitoring measures taken into account for this determination included active and adaptive management measures that would be implemented for the protection of the local environment. Based on the consideration of these measures, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
