Maria Street Swing Bridge - Replacement, Trent-Severn Waterway, Maria Street, Peterborough, Ontario

The overall intent of this project is replacement of the Maria St. Swing Bridge steel structure sympathetic to the original structure and the rehabilitation of concrete elements. Partial removal of abutments and wingwalls will be undertaken while protecting the existing canal wall. New concrete will be cast for the abutments and wingwalls, including work below the winter water level, requiring cofferdam isolation and dewatering activities. A covered dryland trench will be installed on either side of the canal walls for electrical utilities, with trenching of the canal bed completed in the dry isolated work zone, to bury an electrical utility duct. The mechanical and electrical systems will be replaced to suit as well. Approach slab roadwork will be undertaken to improve ride quality and seismic integrity, with roadway signage and line painting updated.
