Port of Oshawa Salt Terminal

A project to add bulk salt storage on federal lands at the Port of Oshawa has been proposed by Cargill. The project entails operation of a terminal for salt storage and distribution and will involve the construction of an asphalt pad covering an area of approximately 250 metres by 120 metres (or 1.2 hectares). The operation would be from approximately March to December each year and the salt would arrive by laker vessels and be moved to a covered storage pile on the pad. In the winter months, salt from the pile would be loaded into trucks for delivery to the end user(s). Approximately 20,000 to 60,000 tons of salt is anticipated to be stored each year.

Oshawa, ON - April 22, 2021 - The Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority has determined that the proposed project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
