Backwater Valve Installation - Canadian Forces Base Kingston

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. The project will involve the installation of backwater valves on eight existing stormwater outfalls at Canadian Forces Base Kingston. The backflow prevention valves will provide a long-term solution to mitigate effects of high water from Lake Ontario on existing infrastructure. The work will include, removing damaged outfall pipe ends and replacing with new sections of pipe, and installing the backwater valves within the stormwater pipe. Physical work will be conducted in the late summer and early fall, when lake water levels are typically at their lowest.

Latest update

June 15, 2023 – The public comment period on the project is closed. The Department of National Defence is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
