Demolition of buildings at the Crégheur site in Luskville, Quebec

The National Capital Commission (NCC) recently acquired a parcel of land adjacent to Gatineau Park, located at 578 chemin Crégheur in Luskville, Quebec. The parcel is located south of the Eardley Escarpment and was previously used for agricultural purposes. There is a developed area in the center of the site that includes an uninhabited residential house and six farm buildings. The main purpose of the acquisition is to conserve and protect the natural environment, which provides habitat for several species of grassland birds, including species at risk. It is also proposed to build a parking lot on the site and establish links with existing hiking trails in Gatineau Park. This will meet the demand for vehicle parking and improve access to the park from the Luskville area.

The buildings on the Chemin Crégheur site have reached the end of their life cycle, and currently pose a health and safety risk for the public. The NCC is therefore proposing to demolish these buildings so that the site can be returned to its natural state, and to make room for future visitor infrastructure. Demolition of the buildings is scheduled for autumn 2024.

Project objectives:

  • Demolish and evacuate the site of all elements deemed not required

  • Improve health and safety risks associated with the site due to existing buildings in poor condition

  • Renaturalize the site and improve the grassland habitat

  • Meet NCC standards for environmentally friendly demolition

The project is proposed by the NCC, on land under its stewardship (Gatineau Park). It is subject to federal land use, design and transaction approval under the National Capital Act
