Rideau Falls East and West Dams - Public Safety Measures

The work involves installing public safety measures around the Rideau Falls East and West Dams. This includes sign installation, new anchor positioning for the waterway barriers and a new escape ladder. Construction timing is anticipated for summer/fall 2023 with attention to biological timing windows.

The Rideau Falls Dam complex is located in the City of Ottawa where the Rideau River discharges into the Ottawa River over the Rideau Falls. The complex consists of the East Dam and the West Dam located respectively on the east and west sides of Green Island.

The work will potentially involve trimming trees for the visibility of the upstream West Dam signage. No trees will be removed for this project.

One location is owned and managed by NCC, while four locations are owned and managed by the City of Ottawa. Both parties are involved in the project coordination.
