Shirleys Bay Demolition, Buildings 7, 8, and 26

Proposed Building Demolition of buildings 7, 8 and 26 at the Shirleys Bay Campus located at 3701 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario.

The Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development's Communications Research Centre of Canada is proposing to demolish three (3) buildings located at Shirleys Bay Campus that are long past their life expectancy.

The buildings are located on Federal Land located in the National Capital Commission area. This project will be conducted in collaboration with the NCC as it is subject to a federal land use, design and real estate transaction approval under the National Capital Act.  

The three buildings are single story and have a combined footprint of 1252m2. The work will involve the demolition of buildings 7, 8 and 26. The demolition will also include the removal of the surrounding asphalt.

The demolition and backfilling is set to be done in the autumn of 2023 and will use heavy machines. The area will be returned to natural green space and is set to be done in 2024.

January 19, 2024 – The Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development’s Communications Research Centre of Canada with the National Capital Commission issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
