Partial removal of docks from the former Lachine marina

The partial removal project for temporary storage of the docks of the former marina of Lachine plans to remove 43 docks and walkways that were used to moor the boats of marina users. These are docks 1 to 40 (20 docks) and piers 21 to 23, 25, 26, 28 to 30, 32, 33, 49 to 59 as well as the boat launch docks and the gas station. The existing breakwaters will remain in place, as well as certain wharfs used by river shuttles and "batobuses", the SPVM nautical squad and the auxiliary coast guard.

The construction method

The removal project includes the removal of the docks and footbridges as well as their safe storage on a site belonging to the City of Montreal. Access walkways and all hardware will be removed and transported off site for storage. The docks will be detached from their chains and anchor cables to the shore. The submerged anchors and chains that hold the docks in place will be left in place pending the development phase of the future park. For each individual wharf to be removed, a warning buoy (yellow) will be installed on the submerged anchor located farthest from the shore so as to define a perimeter around the site. If only one anchorage exists for a dock, it will be marked with a warning buoy. The chains of the other anchors closer to the bank will be fixed to a chain firmly attached to the bank using a stake. Anchor cables that connect the docks to the shore will be removed and recycled. The equipment and hardware installed on the platforms (bollards, cleats, etc.) will be removed and stored. The docks will be towed out of the water via the existing boat launch on site. The docks will then be dismantled into transportable sections and will be transported to a designated storage site.

No physical intervention or excavation in the water environment or on the banks is proposed as part of this work. Work is limited to the removal of unused floating docks and associated equipment. No navigation landmarks or breakwaters will be affected.
