Closure of the M Bridge and installation of a floating boardwalk at Wapizagonke Lake, Shewenegan sector, La Mauricie National Park

The M Bridge, which provides access to trails from the Shewenegan picnic area, must be closed for public safety reasons due to the deterioration of some of its structural components. To that end, land access to the bridge will be blocked using metal fencing, and recreational navigation under the bridge will be prohibited through the installation of booms on both sides of the bridge. To maintain pedestrian access to points of interest in the area, the proposed solution is to install a floating boardwalk on Wapizagonke Lake midway between the M Bridge and the canoe rental site. This boardwalk will connect to the existing Les Cascades trail on the west shore of the lake and will use the existing stepped staircase on the east shore. To allow for this, selective clearing of the riparian strip on the west side will be required to enable the construction of a wooden staircase linking the boardwalk to the end of the trail. The work is planned for spring 2026. These activities constitute a solution that will remain in place for a few years in order to maintain access to this area, which is highly sought after by visitors to La Mauricie National Park. Mitigation measures to maintain recreational navigation on Wapizagonke Lake will be implemented throughout the rollout of the project.
