Replacement of the Sault-au-Cochon heliport FR 1893

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada's (DFO) Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) plans to demolish the existing Sault-au-Cochon heliport and rebuild it to a new standard plan. The objective of the project is to replace the structure which is in very poor condition and has reached the end of its useful life. The dimensions of the new heliport will be 24' x 24' and will be smaller than the existing one.

The work will have little impact on the environment. No excavation is planned on site. No large machinery will be involved since the heliport will be anchored to the surface rock. Access to the site will be by helicopter only. No deforestation is planned, except possibly the cutting of small vegetation under the heliport. There will be a generator on site and some mechanical and electrical carpentry tools.

The date of the work is not yet determined, but the work should be done between mid-September and mid-November 2022. It is expected that this project will last about 1 month. The work will take place during the day only.

August 15, 2024 – The Canadian Cost Guard issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
