Outdoor Agora to welcome visitors at Gros-Cacouna Marsh, Cacouna (Que.)
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The Maliseet First Nation of Viger (Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk) plans to build an outdoor agora to welcome visitors to the Marais de Gros-Cacouna in Cacouna, Quebec, on land owned by the Department of the Environment and Climate Change Canada. The project, scheduled for spring or fall 2020, will require ground levelling and vegetation removal, installation of piles, construction of a small open agora (approximately 25 m long by 5 m wide) with a wooden structure, corrugated steel cover and stretched canvas bodyguards, as well as the installation of a universal access ramp. Furthermore, some interpretation panels on species at risk and the Maliseet culture, currently installed at the Marais de Gros-Cacouna, will be dismantled and relocated on the interior walls of this agora. The project also includes the use of the agora to welcome visitors. Minimal impacts on flora and fauna are anticipated because the work and the location of the agora are planned in an open, anthropized environment away from important habitats and periods of use by wildlife.
