Ecological restoration of Lac des Cinq: Dismantling of a former log driving structure and removal of logs

To improve the ecological integrity of the area, LPNM created an aquatic ecosystem restoration program and implemented it in 2004. The current project focuses on Lac des Cinq, which is situated in the backcountry north of LPNM. Its aim is to restore the hydrological regime to near-natural conditions by removing all remnants of an old log driving structure located at the outlet of the lake. This will stimulate the development of the riparian ecosystem and uncover natural beaches that have long been submerged. Another activity planned for the project is the removal of logs that have accumulated in shallow areas of the lake due to log driving. The presence of logs causes excessive sedimentation, which degrades habitat quality for the brook trout population in Lac des Cinq. This project will be assessed using a basic impact assessment.
