Surface water management, Yara Canada Terminal, Contrecoeur

Yara Canada Inc. operates a fertiliser handling and temporary storage site, leased from the Montreal Port Authority, situated at 1920 Route Marie-Victorin, Contrecoeur, Quebec. It intends to install, in the Spring of 2022, a storm water treatment system, which will include the enlargement of the current drainage ditches and sedimentation pond.

August 12nd, 2022 – The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) has determined that the proposed project of Surface water management of Yara Canada, Contrecoeur Terminal, is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:

  • Containment and spill management
  • Erosion and sediment control
  • Fauna and flora control
  • Contaminated soil management
  • Monitoring the quality of surface and treated water
  • Waste management
  • Operation of machinery

Therefore, the MPA may perform any duty or function to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
