New Canada Post Processing Centre, Ottawa ON

Canada Post Corporation (CPC) is proposing to construct and operate a new processing plant on a 9 hectares site at 50 Leikin Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, located within the South Merivale Business Park light industrial subzone and outside of the Ottawa Greenbelt limits.  CPC owns the land and is the lead federal authority for this project.  Since the project is located within the National Capital Region, the National Capital Commission (NCC) has a role under the National Capital Act, as part of the Federal Land Use, Design and Transaction Approval (FLUDTA) process.

This site is presently vacant and is surrounded by Bill Leathem Drive to the south, Leikin Drive to the east, vacant lots that are part of the Business Park to the north and the Lumentum facility to the west.

The Project includes a new building of approximately 218,000 square feet.  Pre-construction activities will include exclusion fencing, land clearing, topsoil stripping, sub-excavation, engineered fill, rough grading and implementation of a soil management plan. The new Ottawa Processing Centre will include state-of-the-art processing equipment for parcel sorting as well as some office space. The Project site will also include docking and parking spaces for trucks and trailers, employee parking, fencing, landscaping, stormwater management, site lighting, and waste and recycling storage.

This project is required by CPC to address capacity, growth, and improving service.  The new building will be designed to be highly energy efficient, and to meet the Canada Green Building Council's Zero Carbon Building Standard with a net zero carbon design.  It will be designed for accessibility according to universal and inclusive design standards.  The Project will aim to divert 90% of construction and demolition waste.
