Septic Field to serve Forest & Nature Child Care Centre

Andrew Fleck Children's Services has proposed to build a new septic field to serve its Forest and Nature Child Care Centre. The septic field is needed to replace existing aging underground sanitary lines that are in poor condition. Inspections have found that it is not possible to repair the existing lines, and that replacement is the only feasible option.

The proposed location of the septic field is at the entrance to 411 Corkstown Road on land currently used as campsites in the Wesley Clover Parks Campground.  These particular campsites are underused due to their high-traffic location and will be decommissioned as part of this proposal.  This location was selected, in consultation with engineers and biologists, because it is already partially cleared and therefore requires only minimal tree removal (approximately 20 trees).  Existing mature trees and vegetation will be retained and protected as much as possible.  Staging for the project construction will occur in existing cleared areas on the site.  Once the septic field is installed, the land above it will be maintained as an open lawn.

This proposal adheres to the terms of the long-term lease between the Wesley Clover Foundation and the NCC.  It is also in alignment with the 2013 Greenbelt Master Plan.

A Site Plan Control Application has been submitted to the City of Ottawa for the project and NCC Federal Land Use, Design and Transaction Approval (FLUDTA) is being pursued.  Construction is expected to commence for the septic field as early as Summer 2021 and be completed within 3 months of construction commencement. There are no neighbouring homes within close proximity which would be impacted significantly.
