Connaught Range Gallery Replacement Project

The Project is for the demolition and reconstruction of a new target gallery, related equipment and storage sheds of the Connaught Range and Primary Training Centre, Charlie Range.  A new berm is also to be included within this project and will be built longitudinally between lanes 31 and 35 with recovered materials down the range.  As the target gallery mantlet (area located before the concrete gallery), contains contaminated soils, during the rebuild this material will be removed and incorporated within the berm.  The Project of the gallery buildings and new berm dividing the range approach will increase the operational efficiency of the range. 

The scope of the project includes the following:

•       Protection of Species at Risk (SAR) on site;

•       Removal and rebuilding of the gallery, mantel and all building structures by way of mechanical demolition;

•       Transporting, reusing and, grading of soils from the Project site as well as reusing the soils that were stored on lot 18, at CRPTC;

•       Contaminated Soils:  In 2015/16 contaminated soil from the backstop maintenance project was relocated to lot 18 at CRPTC for temporary storage and future reuse. The back stop berm was restored with clean material (sand/sawdust mix) to the depth of one meter.

 However during the project activities if there are any visual/olfactory evidence of impacts all work must stop and the Project Manager, DND and Project OPI must be immediately contacted for further instructions.

•       Construction, Renovation and Demolition: All efforts shall be taken in order to divert as much of the non-hazardous solid waste generated from this project from landfill sites (with a target of 90% waste diversion). Actions to be taken will be outlined in a project-specific Waste Management Plan. The requirements for waste audit, waste reduction workplan and waste source separation program are outlined in section 01 74 19 Waste Management and Disposal of the tender documents.

Any materials not being reused or recycled must be sent to a provincially approved waste disposal facility. It must not be buried or burned on or off-site. Any waste generated shall not be disposed of into waterways, storm, or sanitary sewers
