Rideau River Eastern Pathway Informational Kiosk

The Overbrook Community Association hopes to build a kiosk and bicycle parking along the Rideau River Eastern Pathway in Ottawa, Ontario. The proposed project would provide relevant information about the Rideau River to residents and visitors of the National Capital Region utilizing this multi-use pathway.

The proposed project would take place on National Capital Commission (NCC) lands and is subject to a federal land use, design, and real estate transaction approval under the National Capital Act.

The proposed project would consist of three information kiosks and a bicycle parking rack. The three information kiosks would inform and educate the public on various local plants and animals, the Rideau River, its historic use by both Indigenous Peoples and later settlers as well as on how the river and adjacent lands are managed today. The bicycle parking rack would encourage cyclists to stop and view the small falls in the river and take photos from the Adàwe Crossing. The project would also be accompanied by minor landscaping of non-invasive native plant species.

The proposed project would be located near two existing benches, along an NCC multi-use pathway just south of the Adàwe Crossing bridge. The project will be built on manicured lawn, east of the NCC multi-use pathway.

The construction of the project is set to begin in early spring 2022 with an anticipated completion date of May 2023. The construction will be completed using light-duty machines and equipment, and the work area will be fenced accordingly. The construction work will abide by all municipal by-laws, including noise considerations.

Tree removals are not anticipated for this project. All excavation work will be monitored by the NCC's Archaeologist.
