Royal Military College East Shoreline Stabilization

The proposed project involves the restoration of a section of the Royal Military College (RMC) east shoreline that is eroding. The section to be restored is approximately 120 metres long at the floating docks on Navy Bay near the HMCS Ontario building located at 10 General Crerar Crescent. The work is planned for the fall of 2019.

Prior to the work beginning, the gangway docks will be removed and stored, a turbidity curtain will be installed in the work area and existing undermined concrete piers and sidewalk will be formed and concrete infilled with an air-entrained mix.

The project involves the installation of rock and filter cloth along the shoreline. Approximately 200 m3 of large washed limestone boulders will be placed along the shoreline at the water's edge. Approximately 300 m3 of washed gabion stone (4 to 8 inches in size) will be placed between the newly placed limestone boulders and the sidewalk. Filter cloth will be installed between the newly placed limestone boulders and the gabion stone. Filter cloth and ¾ inch clear stone will be installed between the gabion stone and sidewalk.  This will protect the concrete from potential damage by the gabion stone and ensure any granular under the sidewalk is not eroded, while still allowing for drainage. A concrete pad will be poured between HMCS Ontario R85 and the rock lined shore to allow for boat storage.
